No More Church Growth?

A Twitter buddy of mine, Juan Huertas, has just posted on his blog on the subject of church growth. You can read it here.

This is a timely topic given the emphasis on making the numbers work and setting measurable goals. I don’t see church growth to be wrong, but I do question the need to justify salaries or measure the quality of a church by how many people it attracts. Attendance and membership say something about a church, but is what our church growth emphasis is saying to the community the thing for which we want our church to be known?

Another tweet today has to do with this as well, and this is along the lines that the more outwards-focused a church is the more inward warmth and growth there will be. Interesting thought.
