About Me

JonMy name is Jon Shriver. I am an American by birth, born in the Philippines where my parents were missionaries and, in 1973, we moved to Australia. In 2013 I became an Australian by choice and love this great country and its values and progressive outlook.

My family has always been active in church work wherever we were and I was raised in a strongly Evangelical and politically conservative context.

My understanding of God, the world, and myself has changed considerably since my earlier days. When I speak of God, I speak of One who is beyond our language, our worldview or our tradition, and who is inclusive, loving, compassionate, gracious, creating, providing and renewing.  I would like to think that these words also describe me, and they do—but in an incomplete, yet growing, sense.

Themes I engage frequently include the Church, politics, growing up, and change. I also speak a lot about Love and living in (as Ed Bacon would put it) the house of Love rather than in the house of fear.

I am on this life adventure with my wife of 27 years, Vicki, and my kids, Emily and Brenton.  I’m sure you’ll read about them somewhere in this blog.

Welcome to the adventure! I hope you’ll challenge yourself as you read these words. I hope that, as they have meaning for me and reflect my own worldview and journey, that somehow you will find meaning in them for your life.

Grace and Peace.

    1. I’m already part of the Speakeasy Blogger Network and have reviewed several books from you. The only reason I haven’t posted a recent review is time. Thanks for thinking of me! Peace.
